The Word of God                                                  John 1:1-3

From the beginning, God has told us that He loves us, wants us to know and love Him, wants only the best for us, grieves over our rebellious estrangements from Him and promises to reconcile us back to Himself by removing the stain of sin on our lives.

He has given His Word on it!

God speaks in active, not passive, voice.   His Word is Who He is.  His Word, like your word, reveals who He is, but His Word is even more than that.  Look at verse 1.  Here the Word of God is shown to be a Person.

In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.

Now look at John 1:14.  This Person who is with God, in fact is the Almighty creator of Heaven and Earth (verses 2 & 3).  He is the Personification of everything that God has to say to us (Hebrews 1:2).  He became flesh and lived among us!  God with us - the translation of the word, Immanuel.  (Matthew 1:23)

Who could this Person be?

  • Mohammed?
  • Buddha?
  • Confucius?
  • Moses?
  • Joseph Smith?

In the context of John 1:14 -18, we see clearly that this Person is none other than Jesus!  No man has seen God, but we have seen Jesus who has demonstrated God to us.  Do you wonder what God is like?  The answer can be found in Jesus.  Jesus said it Himself specifically in the 14th chapter of the book of John when he told Philip, "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time?  Any one who has seen me has seen the Father."

Now let's take a closer look at Immanuel (Jesus) and see what He reveals to us about God.
